The story’s origin stretches back to the 1940s. In 1948, Robert and his brother founded their first bubblegum manufacturing business in Amsterdam, in their own home, where they used only a homemade machine for making the gum.
The start of the new business was not easy, and the Markus brothers worked day and night to produce the bubblegums. Introducing the new product took time, but their persistent work eventually bore fruit. By 1956, Maple Leaf had its own factory.
The real breakthrough came in 1966, when the famous Donald ML bubblegum entered the market, becoming a resounding success worldwide.
